Alhamdulillah another success homeschool day.

Ummi's rambling

Alhamdulillah, I feel very organise and motivated now with our classroom. Live is more easy. And organization is always a key to success, alhamdulillah. Now, I feel like it's worth the money that we spend. Most of our money actually got homeschool not just on resource, but the place. If I didn't homeschool kids, I don't think I will wanted to rented the house I got now. I be better off to just four bedroom terrace house which less maintenance, rented and council tax. But, as kids are 24/7 with me and I'm always had guest most of the time, we not just going to squeeze our self only but will always had more then six people in the house now and again. And as I'm always had a visitor with kids, I do need extra room as our classroom where I can just lock the door when I had a bunch of kids around in the house.

Yesterday lesson start around 10.30 am and finish around 3.30pm. Kids only stop about 45 minutes for zohr break. As of course at the age of six will have so many break as he finish his work. He also did had a break as he want in the middle of his work. I do stop him sometimes, to make sure he need to sit at least to finish one of his worksheet and go off. told him to go and watch t.v. in the family room, but may be after 10 minutes he will be back again and say that he want to study as t.v is boring! So, when ever he seems wanted to go away from learning, I will shoo him off and he will back here before I can turn my back around! He love learning alhamdulillah, but he sill a young child. he deserve to play around and develop himself in independent play, imagination and confident and lead himself around with guide from me at the back. For me, I do leave my child on their own most of the time in their learning before they reach 7 or 8. They actually lead themselves and learn how to develop independently. I don't really play with them even when PS was small and on her own. I will provide color and paper and they will usually lead themselves and do what they want. Also painting, scissor, colour paper and all art and craft stuff. All this is my compulsory shopping before school holiday when they used to go to school. They will stay in PS room in the attic,( when we was in four bedroom terrace house), and scramble and do what they want with art and craft. They lead them selves, work as a team. This is when PS learn how to organise, plan and teach and lead her other siblings.

I love art and craft for kids and love to just leave them with it. If I involve, I feel like asking them to follow what I want. Leaving them with art and craft stuff on their own, is like open their creativity and mind and opinion and confident. They learn how to express themselves and lead themselves and feel comfortable. They love it when they be able to come to me and show their work with their own way and thinking and creativity. They also learn how to tidy up after that and clean everything.

At the moment, I didn't actually organise art and craft for a long time. As I can't see any point for it. Art and craft is like kids daily life. All the art and craft resource and tools can be access any time in this house as long as they tidy up everything. Although I can actually do had to collect paper here and there. Or ended up washing paint brush and etc. The only thing is I didn't really capture it. May be I should as them to do that. I can actually see the left over of art and craft in this house everywhere when I wake up in the morning, which usually piece of paper with picture, poster, colour or an origami and all sort of art and craft. Their creativity never end, and it's always self lead, alhamdulillah.

Same as P.E. Yesterday PS was reading another homeshcool blog and she mention about we didn't actually had P.E as our subject. I ask her what P.E. actually is. And I ask her, won't you all go bicycle riding when ever weather nice, playing ball in the driveway or back garden. Go on skate board or running around even if the weather not nice outside, we still had a big space for them to run around in the house. And yes, they all very active. The only person that need P.E in this house I reckon is me!

Back in to the classroom

I'm not sure when this picture taken as I just found this when I'm uploading the picture from the camera. I bet one of the kids did this from the maths cube and take a picture.

Alhamdulillah, at last we manage to get back into our classroom. All praise to Allah as we able to find the house with the big study room apart from two reception which one we made into men lounge or praying area and another one as family room.

We also had three big fitted cupboard in the library which one for hubby stuff, one for homeschool resource and one for my homeschool and personal stuff.

Also this room got fitted shelf above the cupboard to fit our book and also we had another two book shelf of ours. It's actually not enough to fit everything in and I had to stop buying books and may be might had to send some books back to Malaysia now for other to benefit from it.

This time, I made one table for my self as I find it hard to sit only on computer table. On the left is my table which I got printer on the left and my stuff such as stapler, hole punch, scissor, pens marker and etc. All my stationary which I need next to me and also I just bought the stack on organiser which cost £1 from boot sale for me to organise kids mindsprinting worksheet and my other printed article. So, I know where they are and they also in order in which I need to check and need to file in the folder. It's very important to organise as I got four and they getting bigger which means their learning getting broader. Not just academic but as islamic studies getting bigger picture as well, I just had to catch and get organise before I fall onto the worksheet and pile of books!

S and AS sit on the lower table on the left. This is to make sure easy for me to sit on their side whenever they need me. Not always the case, alhamdulillah. They can work independently but only when we got new topic and area to learn then I will need to be beside them for quiet sometimes. For example, today S had to learn about circle graph which she also need to convert numbers to percentage and then to the angle. I had to spend quiet sometimes with her on the topic. Sit on lower table make us more comfortable, alhamdulillah.

The two table on the left belong to PS and MS. They both can work independently most of the time or if they need me, only for a short time on their side. PS used to work up stairs in her room as she got her own study table, but I think working in our classroom give more motivation for us. She had brought down all her stuff and it's still in the box next to her table. The book shelf contains story book and information books.

Picture on the left is our fitted cupboard and on the bottom shelf is kids workbook and study book. It's all tight up actually. I'm now looking forward to finish all the workbook before next September. All the other upper shelf is hubby stuff.
As I had trow away our old computer table, and didn't find a new one yet, i decided to used another lower table that we got.
But, the table are too small and I had to squeeze two desk top in one table at the moment. I still waiting for it to show up in car boot sale! I bought the table for £4 and another one for £2.50, so don't bother to get a new plus they are only can be found in Ikea. I got both of the colourful drawer in the picture also for £10 in car boot sale. At the moment, they fill in with scrap paper and art and craft stuff.
This is another fitted bookshelf which got islamic studies workbook and resource for kids and also file and folder of each subject and planning folder. Also some book of children development, curriculum and homeschool planning and my other stuff.
When hubby bought the white board years back and told me that he want to used it to teach kids, he made me laugh and angry. Especially we live in small three terrace house with lots of people around. The big white board make me sick! But, now alhamdulillah it's very useful for us.

This is my area where usually it will be hubby area when he back from work. Then I then sit on the cushion and used the desk top. Like last night, I manage to do lots of things and me and him stuck in the study room until 10pm. But, at last I got to sort out lots of kids work before I go to bed as our classroom now function back again!
It's also just easy to manage and organise as kids put everything back in order such as their workbook and worksheet after we finish class. Also they can left their table tidy with their folder for me to check and their stationary for the next day. Also everybody know where thing are and know where to put things back.
Alhamdulillah, although still I got plenty things to organise in our classroom. Also I will be so busy lately as I try to finish some of kids topic before summer middle of June. We will start on our hands on study and will be revise on what we been doing. Which for me means, project. I'm already collect plenty of resource and study tools from car boot sale now waiting to use. But, as project means, exciting things and had to make sure our project will cover kids different level. My kids will wanted to do the same thing and i'm now planning on our hands on study relate to what we been learning before and now which is sort of headache. But, I wanted this to happen in summer, out and about and where we can do our experiment in the back garden and surroundign area which this cannot be done during winter in cold weather.
Now as I'm more organise, looks like this homeschool blog will keep filling in with report!

Cleaning in progress

Friday we don't do much work. As it's also first day hubby stay home on Friday as he now working four days a week at the moment. It's also kind of for me to settle things down as he will now be home on Friday. As the weather also nice, I'm desperately need to continue cleaning our classroom. PS and MS also need to continue sort our play room up stairs.

Kids just do their Maths and quran reading. I continue cleaning our classroom on and off and still on it until today. I do hope that I will finish it by tomorrow but, looks like I will having guest tomorrow. Probably two family plus I'm desperately need to go to car boot sale to find computer table and also if I can squeeze time, to recycling centre to put our old computer table away. I'm not sure how I'm gonna manage all that to be honest. I like to be lazy around on Sunday as I know weekday I don't have much chance to actually clear my head. But, at the moment, it's all full as a mess of our classroom.

To reorganize certainly is not an easy things. I'm also had to decide what to throw away and what need to be keep and store in. I just hate what I need to do at the moment. I just feel if I got wand and clear everything away in one go. One of the reason is I'm also on my peak circle of my period. My head will be full although there's nothing to think about. Looking at all the mess just stuck my head. But, STUCK is not something I can live with at the moment because I know it won't get me anywhere. As for that, I just cool and get on with it and go through every single paperwork one by one. I'm actually rushing up against time although I know I can just close and lock the classroom aka our study room tomorrow when I have guess. But, i will be tired at the end of the day tomorrow cooking and entertaining and still will have to think about hubby pack lunch and work clothes for Monday. Also if I don't settle the room tomorrow before guest here, how I'm gonna do my homeschool on Monday?

Well, anyway we'll see. At the moment, I try what I can do and leave everything to Allah s.w.t. He the only One that can make this happen.

Alhamdulillah, everything went smooth as usual even though we in a mess at the moment as I start to tidy up our classroom. All kids went to book club in the library, listen to story reading by the librarian, discuss about the book and do book review. The club is run for one hour and they also change their book. So, looks like twice to the library, giving them more book to read as they try to finish the book they borrow on Tuesday and get a new book on Tuesday. A week, each kids usually read between 5 to 10 library books, alhamdulillah. I think, library had contribute a lots to successful of AS reading as he push himself hard to finish the book he read and borrow another. He finds that book is exiting and give him a pleasure of entertainment and knowledge.
